El éxito a la altura de la modernidad

El éxito podría definirse como la resolución efectiva de toda situación, problema o propósito; como muchos conceptos en la vida, es muy subjetiva la valoración que se le otorga al mismo. Esto depende de la persona y el tipo de sociedad en la que se desarrolla.

En diferentes momentos de la historia el concepto de éxito ha tenido distintas valoraciones: en la antigua Grecia ser un guerrero diestro o en la edad media poseer propiedades y convertirse en señor feudal o ser sacerdote fueron en su momento modelos de éxitos.

A partir de la caída del muro de Berlín y el fin de la guerra fría, se dio inicio a una nueva iniciativa de geopolítica: la globalización. El concepto de aldea global que contempla un mundo interconectado. Con la socialización de valores y la aparición de internet y redes sociales, nuestro criterio de éxito se hizo más homogéneo.

Hoy el éxito se mide en términos económicos. El dinero ha sido una variable constante en el modelo histórico de éxito, sin embargo, actualmente tenemos connotaciones especiales. Entre ser y parecer, quien no puede ser entonces intenta parecer. Las redes sociales han facilitado el desarrollo de múltiples empleos informales donde la imagen y percepción es importante. Todos intentan desarrollar su marca personal en donde todo lo asociado a malestar no es aceptado.
La cantidad de seguidores e influencia es un valor intrínseco del éxito moderno. Esta nueva perspectiva es buena, ha contribuido enormemente al desarrollo de estrategias de comunicación efectiva. Sin embargo, no hay nada tan bueno que no tenga algo negativo:

Las redes sociales también han contribuido enormemente con el desarrollo de trastornos mentales. Los perfiles en cada plataforma son un espejo en el cual mirarse para millones de personas, muchas de las cuales son adolescentes y preadolescentes, sin la capacidad de distinguir lo real de la apariencia.

En las plataformas tecnológicas se encuentran comunidades en donde todo el mundo quiere proyectar estar en su mejor momento. Conectar con la audiencia implica compartir contenido personal de trabajo, relaciones amorosas, tiempo libre y ocupaciones. En un mar de cosas atractivas, las vidas normales parecen poco interesantes.

Si eres una persona introvertida con dificultad para mostrarse al mundo, compartir la vida cotidiana se vuelve un reto obligatorio si deseas ir al corriente de la aldea global. Ser honestos sobre situaciones de desempleo, depresión, ansiedad o cualquier contenido distante a la apariencia de bienestar y plenitud es considerado inadecuado.

Hoy vivimos más empeñados en complacer a los demás que a nosotros mismos. Somos la generación de corazones tristes y fotografías felices. Nadie desea proyectar una imagen de derrota o fracaso, por eso elegimos calzar el zapato del éxito a la altura de la modernidad; de cristal, vulnerable y difícil de llevar. Uno que probablemente solo les queda a pocas cenicientas.
